ABOUT DEPARTMENT

The Department of Optometry offers education and clinical training in vision science and ocular health. Through Bachelor of Optometry, Masters of Optometry and Ph.D. Optometry programs, students gain expertise in diagnosing and managing visual disorders. With modern optometry lab and hospital collaborations, it fosters research in areas like contact lenses, binocular vision, and ocular diseases.

 

 

 

 

Programs Offered

Bachelor of Optometry – B.Optom

Duration 5 years, including 1 year of internship
Eligibility
  • The candidate must have passed the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2) or its equivalent from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Mathematics as compulsory subjects, securing a minimum of 50% aggregate marks.
  • Admission shall be granted based on merit obtained in the Senior Secondary (10+2) examination, in accordance with the applicable admission guidelines.
  • The candidate must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or shall complete 17 years on or before 31st December of the year of admission to the first year of the undergraduate Allied and Healthcare programme.
  • Lateral Entry (Direct Admission to Second Year/3rd Semester): Candidates who have completed a Diploma in Optometry or Diploma in Ophthalmic Assistant from a recognized institution are eligible for admission to the Second Year (3rd Semester), subject to the applicable regulatory guidelines.

Master of Optometry – M.Optom.

Duration 2 years
Eligibility
  • The candidate must have completed a Bachelor of Optometry (B.Optom.) in regular mode with a minimum 5.5 CGPA from a recognized university.
  • Admission shall be granted based on the entrance examination conducted, in accordance with the prevailing admission regulations.
  • Candidates seeking admission to the postgraduate programme must be registered with the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions (NCAHP).

Eligibility
  • The candidate must have completed a Master of Optometry (M.Optom.) from a recognized university with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks (or as prescribed by the applicable regulatory authority).
  • Admission shall be granted based on the entrance examination conducted, in accordance with the prevailing admission regulations.
